The Challenge
the client's existing setup couldn't survive peak season. During a flash sale, their previous platform buckled under 8x normal traffic, losing an estimated 6 hours of revenue. They needed a marketplace that could handle vendor onboarding at scale, support multiple currencies and regional shipping rules, and keep page load times under 200ms globally — all without a team of 50 engineers to maintain it.
Our Solution
We chose Next.js with SSR for product pages to get fast Time-to-First-Byte without sacrificing SEO, then built a Node.js microservices backend so traffic spikes to the search service wouldn't take down checkout. Elasticsearch handles product search with fuzzy matching across millions of SKUs. For payments, we integrated Stripe and PayPal with PCI DSS compliance, using tokenization so card data never touches our servers. Each vendor gets a real-time dashboard pulling from WebSocket-powered inventory updates and a BI layer built on top of PostgreSQL with Redis caching for analytics queries.
The Results
500+ vendors onboarded in the first month. During a 10x Black Friday traffic surge, the platform held 99.9% uptime with zero checkout failures. $2M+ in transactions processed in 3 months, no security incidents. Page load times stayed under 200ms globally via CDN. Mobile conversion improved 35% over the client's previous site. Customer satisfaction hit 4.7/5.0, and vendor retention is running at 92%.
